Jyr

Jyr is the electro-funk pop project of Jakob Shaw ('18) and his Oberlin collaborator Wyatt Winborne. They've been friends since middle school and played their first show at Zonker Harris Day 2015. Airtight, soulful songwriting at its core, Jyr's music calls to mind Radiohead's recent electronics-inflected sound and the work of Thom Yorke, but a bit warmer and less disillusioned-Brit clickity-clackity. It's highly danceable and diverse, colored by warped synths, guitar, and beats--minimalist at its core but deeply funky. At their Zonker debut, Jyr twisted Kelly Clarkson's "Since U Been Gone" into a crushing, down-tempo top-40 avalanche of ecstatic screams. Most of  the screams were from the crowd.
