Weekend Preview 10/8 - 10/10

SHIRA (+Honey and the Sting & SLOOPY COOS CANYON )

ArtMuho // Thursday 10:00 PM

Facebook event

SHIRA was born in Israel and now lives in Brooklyn as a songwriter, poet and visual artist. She describes her music as “A small gun, but when the trigger is pulled it shoots seaweed, stars, & honey. A murder of crows whose flight is controlled by a woman’s anger/hunger/light.” She is also a successive poet, with writings in many esteemed publications. SHIRA has described her music as “dreamy-electric-soul-pop,” and she blends varying experimental electronic textures with her unique, raw voice in her music, drawing from very eclectic influences.

Honey and the Sting is old friends (Mel Hsu ‘13, Jess Best ‘14, Sam Long ‘12, Gemma Smith ‘13, and Howe Pearson ‘12) that formed here at Wes in 2012. Currently based in Philadelphia, PA, they’re LP “From Source to Sink” is about our very own CT river.  Known for living room shows and intimate concerts, their music is a blend of warmth, nostalgia, and a combination of beautiful instruments and melodies.  You will be filled with joy, melancholy, and really all the feels listening to them

Composed of Erin McGrath (‘16), Nicole Roman-Johnston (‘16) and Luke Macdonald (‘17) Sloopy Coos Canyon is back to play ArtMuho again this weekend. Come check out their "blood rock " and  listen to them perform about "pretty happy stuff about sometimes sad things."

Swings (+ Mal Devisa & P'Derrijereo)

Earth House // Friday 10:00 PM

Facebook event

Hailing from Washington D.C., Swings combines jangly guitars and reverb laden drums to make some pretty laid back (and vaguely sad) jams. If you’re looking for the perfect soundtrack to smoke cigarettes in a city park, be sure to check em out, as well as their upcoming LP Sugarwater coming out on November 13th.

The Northampton songstress, Mal Devisa transcends genres as she blends her soulful vocals with mellow lo-fi guitar sounds. She released her album 4U last spring.

P'Derrijereo

Veeblefetzer

The Bayit // Friday 5:00 PM

Facebook event

Veeblefetzer (hip hoppin’ klezmer band) + Steve Weintraub (incredible Yiddish dance leader) + home-cooked dinner (yummy and free)

Mumblr (+ 5GUyz & Tiny Rick)

Eclectic // Saturday 10:00 PM

Facebook event

Mumblr is a 4-piece “fuzz punk” band based out of North Philly. Formed in October of 2013, Nick Morrison, Ian Amidon, Sean Reilly and Scott Stitzer have released two LPs and numerous EPs. Simultaneously distorted and soulful, their music encourages you to “do whatever you want whenever you want.” Endearingly messy songs such as “ITAUATT (I Think About u All The Time)” and “Masturbation” utilize gang vocals and grungy guitar riffs for your listening pleasure.

Five Guys is five men. Or five dudes.  Five boys.  Not five Guy Fieris.

Half man, half static, Tiny Rick plays some seriously lo-fi power pop. With a discography that reaches back into July of this year, he’s jumped on the scene from nearly nowhere (though reportedly comes from New York). If you’ve got twenty minutes to spare headbanging at Eclectic before Mumblr, come check em out.

The Good Lonely (+ Brien Bradley)

ArtMuho // Saturday 10:30 PM

Facebook event

The good lonely is a new Wesleyan based garage-funk project. Consisting of three new dads who love to party, the good lonely play music that tries to answer the big questions. Janak likes to watch the sun slowly disappear under the horizon. Bram spends his days making fan art for the band Vulfpeck. Jacob was not available for comment. If they were a flavor, they would be umami. If they were a Saturday night, they’d sure be a fun one!

Brien Bradley is a locally acclaimed folk hero. You may have heard his fingerpickin’ up on The Foss. Also featuring a special guest.
