Sometimes at Wes the line between beer-slopping parties and concerts gets blurry. Some bands can cut through the noise. Big bands. With drums. Nobs turned up. Screaming sweaty dudes. Phatrabbit can be all that, but they’re also a bunch of cute, sensitive dudes who might just want to spread their melodies on ya by a crackling fireplace. Rachel Connor’s picture show are certainly all ‘bout that. 202 Wash will curate their space, procure tasty treats, and draw a nice little line between swashbuckling party antics and a concert concert. Come snuggle.

Perfume G—I mean Alex Genius—I mean Alex G is bringing his bizarre or maybe a bit sad or maybe cathartic half-psychedelic indie rock to Wes! Whether your favorite Alex G album is Joy or PAINT or LUCY or Sandy or GOOD or RACE or WINNER or EASY or RULES or TRICK or DSU, the laws of math say that, if Alex G is up for playing tracks from his entire repertoire, he will be playing tracks for everyone! Realistically, your favorite Alex G album is his most recent, DSU, and realistically, he’ll play every song off of it. Alex G likes whales. The album is 32 minutes long, which is cute and quick but not very silly.

Singer-songwriter Omnia Hegazy combines guitar-driven American pop/rock and maqam-based Arabic folk with charged lyrics about women’s rights and political freedom, her faith, and the struggle to combat perceptions of Muslim women. It’s even rumored that Fox News said that she tackles rules of Arab communities “one song at a time.” It’s also rumored she’s playing with her band for the first time outside of NYC. These rumors aren’t really rumors but it’s best you head to Crowell to see for yourself amidst all this gossip.
MVNTRA (+RHYS LANGSTON & KAI OD)

“Rap concert at Art House.” (“That was a confusing statement, Zander.”) Art House, it happens, is hosting a rap concert this weekend, with two Wes rappers Rhys Langston and KAI OD. Alex Hensley, or MVNTRA, came all the way from the one and only island of St. Croix in the Virgin Islands, or so indicates his Soundcloud page. Joke’s on him though, because a simple Facebook search indicates his Wesleyan studentship.
SHOFCO BENEFIT CONCERTO
THE ROOKS (+DAP & CHEF)
ALPHA DELT // SATURDAY 9 PM
The Rooks are Wes alums coming back to bring some cool tunes that you can really groove to. Now based in New York, this indie-soul/R&B sextet just released their second EP and are ready to bring you a swell time with all the Stevie Wonder-influenced melodic vocals and music that’s equal parts raw groove and emotion, kick-back and get-down that you can show off all your hippest dance moves to. The New Yorker describes their music as “funky jams that hit all the right spots” and they say their music is funky enough to maybe make your mother nervous.
DAP is a classically trained pianist, producer and rapper from Lagos, Nigeria who has played at venues all over the world. He attends Brown University where some might say he is a bit of a “campus celebrity.” Plus, he has a huge following on the internet and a dedicated Soundcloud fanbase. His sound has been described as “an almost erotic synth melody juxtaposed against this industrial drumloop we have an instrumental that evokes all sorts of emotions inside us, besides the casual head-bop” by Versus. Deep.
Chef is probably Wesleyan’s biggest band--so big that they don’t fit into some rooms--but also one of the most loved. They’re a 10 piece ensemble that blends hip-hop, funk, soul, and jazz to make some pretty groovy jams that will keep your hips movin’. Come check them out before they head to Brown University for a show next weekend.
WALRUS (+LISA/LIZA & GEE'RRE)
ART HOUSE // SATURDAY 10 PM
Walrus is a psychedelic pop band all the way from Halifax who are currently on their first tour through the States. If you enjoy dreamy music from Nova Scotia or “large flippered marine animals,” then you’ll probably love Walrus.
Lisa/Liza is an experimental folk duo from Portland, who, roughly translated, has been described as “"Karen Dalton meets Syd Barrett if likened the emergence, there is a fluffy girl voice and drunkenness feeling guitar a little earthy atmosphere playing of, and are listening coming fog hung over around gradually, trip feeling as if had entered the maze with no exit I can taste,” by one Japanese reviewer.
Gee’rre is your split-second memory of aural pleasure that precedes an unforeseen Q-Tip accident. Get it?
