Weekend Preview 9/30 - 10/1
Fall approaches. It is terse, tense, waiting for the right moment to strip the trees of their leaves and force you into wool socks. But (!) none of that matters right now because there is a weekend full of concerts worth layering up for, from soft rock to boom-bap. You won’t need handwarmers quite yet, just save up some memories for the coming winter and have a good time. Sayonara September!
The World All Around + Sneaky Boy
Earth House // Friday 10 PM
The World All Around is a two-piece band stopping at Wes on their very first tour. Their single “Punksong” is a sweet collection of whimsical sounds and harmonies perfect for the changing of the seasons.
Sneaky Boy aren’t here to play for anyone but themselves. If their bruised faces and broken knuckles don’t scare you off when you first walk in through the doors, their screeching guitars and face tattoos surely will. Beware, all! They’ve been known to pierce select members of the audience, so wear your football helmets! Do not come! Do NOT come!
Salomon Faye feat. THEillUZiON + Jal + GodDess
Psi U // Friday 10:30 PM
Salomon Faye is a rapper from NY with roots in Paris who blends jazz aesthetics with Harlem hip hop and a Brooklyn DIY attitude, melding into a unique blend. His work has been praised by the likes of Complex, XXL, Pigeons and Planes, and Hot 97. Most recently, he crashed a Desiigner show to perform a song.
Whipping up smooth, subtle rhymes with jazz-samples and hazy beats, Jal a.k.a. Sahil Singhvi(‘18) calls himself “your grandma’s favorite rapper.” That being said, this show isn’t meant to lull you to sleep, it should get thoughts flowing, tongues wagging and bring hands out of pockets to wave in the air.
From the official FB page GodDESS is “poetic movements of the body and the voice and also the spirit and it's fucking fire”. Destiny Polk ‘19 is about to kick this show into transcendental high-gear.
Astral Bird
Alpha Delt // Saturday 11:30 PM
Astral Bird sounds like they strain their productions through a smoke screen. Hazy, multi layered and expansive, their mixes combine soul, electropop and other vape-able genres. Check them out at Alpha Delt if you want to zorb away the evening (you do).
McLeary McLeary + Sarah and AJ
Art House // Saturday 10:30 PM
Sometimes Indie-rock sounds like a dirty word, but Mcleary Mcleary scrubs it clean. With synths licks, and drum kicks they’re whipping up a storm of catchy, melodic tunes and initiating Art House 2016 as one of the comfiest, sweetest venues at Wesleyan.
Sarah and AJ are opening the show with their debut performance. Check em’ out and tell your friends you were, “There when it started, dude”.
