DONCHRISTIAN "MY CREW"
I watched his video with a smile on my face, and can't help but do the same every time I watch it. It's Don. DonChristian graduated from Wes in 2012 and things haven't been the same. He is one of the most sincere and kind people I know, and I know a lot of people would agree with me. He's instantly lovable. It's kind of weird… So seeing him on a pink floatie in the pool, playing tennis, or even standing around in the video for his first single, "My Crew," is more than enjoyable. I just wanted to squish him.
Wes grad Sam Jones directed the video, and he's also responsible for LE1F's "Wut" and "Soda" (which is also by Boody) videos. When I heard that they were shooting the video at the Alexander Julian estate, I was thrilled. I've seen it with my own eyes and I know it to be such an otherworldly piece of land with incredible landscaping. When it rained on the day it was shot, I was worried that it would ruin the video. I actually think the rain added to the video in a good way. It fits the mood well.
At 3:15, you see DonChristian and co. dancing. It's heartwarming and seems so genuine. I know at least all but one of them are Wes alums (maybe she is too, who knows). Two of them are artists who've graduated from and performed at Wes multiple times — the aforementioned LE1F, and another 2012 alum, C¥BERGIGA. One of the girls, Camila Rodriguez '11, can also be seen in LE1f's "Wut" video.
I've had "I go round for round (I go round for round)" stuck in my head ever since I heard "My Crew." That echo sticks with me like some kind of subliminal messaging. The beat is kind of melancholic, but I'm still trying to get down, so it's perfect. It's laid-back, like the man who is rapping on it. I was looking forward to DonChristian's mixtape dropping on Greedhead/Camp & Street earlier this month, but he had to put it off. I'm not sure when we'll get it, but I'm definitely excited. In the meantime, feel free to check out his Soundcloud and watch videos of DonChristian and C¥BERGIGA performing "Whut Is This Is" and "Catch Dis Luv" at Eclectic back in the spring of 2012.
