FAITH HARDING '14 DROPS NOVELTY DAUGHTER EP

Faith Harding '14, has released her first EP as Novelty Daughter, and it is definitely worth a listen. With this follow up to the single, "Unsure," the bassist for now defunct Treasure Island continues her work as a self-producing solo artist. Download it here.

Harding isn't the first electronic producer whose work relies heavily on jazz tropes, but what sets this effort apart from others is her haunting vocals. A 21st century echo of Billie Holiday, she slides and creaks towards unexpected places and we're there with her the whole way. Hers is the voice of a sultry witch that Flying Lotus keeps running into in his wet dreams.  The simultaneously somber and upbeat tone of the EP hits you from the start with the first, and perhaps strongest, track, "Is That So Wrong." Harding sings, "Oh you made me cry again, but I wanted you to / Oh you broke my heart again, how'd you know that I wanted you to?" and I want to say, "Faith, don't cry!" But, then we realize: if she makes music this good when she's crying and heartbroken, maybe we should keep her that way. The release comes by way of Stereocure, the label and brainchild of Jordan "Jalps" Alper. Keep your eye out for more of their releases. If they're anywhere near as good as the Novelty Daughter EP, then we'll all be in luck.
