Interview with Will Freudenheim '18
Listen to Will's response, "Honey, I Shrunk Carly Rae!"
How do members decide what to make in response to the album?
Will: Everyone responds to it in their own creative way. Be it through music, art, etc.
What was it like deep listening to a Carly Rae Jepsen record?
It was fun listening to a whole pop album like that. Which I feel like people don’t normally to. For my interpretation of the album, I was thinking about chord progressions in pop music and the amount of repetition and really how you can break it apart and look at it and chop it up. So my idea was to listen to all the different pieces and find the distinct chord progressions in each piece. And then chop the piece up based on them and condense it so that you would hear the entire piece for only as long as each chord progression repeats.
How does that work out time wise?
It was interesting that her biggest hit on the album only had four chords for all the sections. It’s one chord progression for the entire song, which is four bars, so that became a four bar track. One had an eight measure long section and then more chorus, so that became a minute long in the compressed version. The whole album is condensed to like... five minutes.
