Weekend Preview 10/14 - 10/16
High art, pub rock, no-fi: experience a pleasing sensory mush of music and art this weekend on campus. Boychild’s explosive performance art complements the rustic, cherry undertones of Nice Driveway and Rui Barbosa, while the PDG crew crimps the edge of this tidy pork pie. Enjoy the aural hors devours, this weekend it’s on the house ;)
P’Derrigerrio + The Naustrils
+ Beck Zegans + Special Guest
Music House // Thursday 9PM
PDerrigerrio aka PDG WORLD aka PDG aka Pidare y Gerreo aka PidarryJarryOh aka Puhdarre EE Jerio is the self-proclaimed “trash collective” of Wes’ class of 2016. Their music is super wacky and lo-fi. They don’t stick to conventions - think shows in laundry rooms and on the stairs of school buildings. Recently they released their debut album, and we wrote about it here. If you want to see this show please go back in time because Aural Wes went out on Thursday night and love the PDG squad but, you know how time works… This show was yesterday.
The Naustrils are precise. Snake-eyes dice. Massive mice.
Beck Zegans is a prolific multi-instrumentalist and singer songwriter, coming to perform originals and covers and bring the lights low to rip shit up.
Special Guest
According to the event page there may be a multitude of mystery guests at this show? Rumors include the ghost of the ghost of Tupac and Ashley Olsen. We’ll just have to wait and see.
Tweenage Dance Rave~*
MUSIC HOUSE // Friday 10:30PM
Did you peak in middle school? Relive your glory days at Music House this weekend with sophomore DJs Sanam, Shana, and Chiara. The Tweenage Dance Rave~* will feature all of your favorite songs from when you were twelve--the angstiest hits of every genre.
Rui Barbosa + BIRD.BIRD + THE OPENERS
159 High St. // Friday 9:30PM
Rui Barbosa, who shares a namesake with Brazillian polymath, is a musical power trio consisting of Adam Rochelle ‘17, Jonah Wolfson ‘17 and Johnnie Gilmore ‘18. They’re a jazzy, funky jam band; a tight rhythm section with mind-melting solos and time signature changes. They’re excellent musicians but full of musical shenanigans (they’ve played shows with themes like Disney and TV theme songs). Some of the funkiest rhythms on campus!
bird.bird is a duo out of Boston playing crispy, gentle indie-pop. With songs that boast real tight songwriting, you’ll surely be singing along through their whole set.
The Openers will be Adam and Dontay doing something. Something indeed...
ECLECTIC PRESENTS:
BOYCHILD, UNTITLED LIPSYNC, 2016
Bessie Schonberg Dance Studio // Friday 8PM
Boychild is more than just a performer. They’re an electric, haunting, loving artistic amalgam, challenging ideas of gender and human interactions since 2012. Starting off in drag shows in San Francisco, they’ve moved on to perform in international venues from Berlin Biennale 9 to MoMA PS1. Boychild will be performing Untitled Lipsync, which apparently includes cyborg costumes and an ongoing percussive score; something that boychild describes as “a journey from the screen into three dimensional space and time; into the live body and into live sound.” Presented by Eclectic and held in the Bessie Schonberg Dance Studio, prepare to have your mind melted by something definitely and completely new.
Nice Driveway + Daphne Gampell
Music House // Saturday 10PM
Playing self-described “Balkan funk” music, Tano Brock ‘19, Reed Stutz ‘19, Johnnie Gilmore ‘18, Jack Gorlin ‘18, and Julian Johnson ‘19, comprise Nice Driveway. With a name derived from the English language equivalent of the phonetic pronunciation for the Macedonia phrase for “cheers” ("Na Zdravje!"), it should be immediately apparent that this will be an amazing show full of truly unique music.
Daphne Gampell ‘19 will be starting the night with a solo acoustic set.
