Are YOU gonna be the sexiest, drunkest kitty-cat at the party?

Henry Canyons (+Rhys Langston & MVNTRA) at Psi U Pre-Halloween Rap Concert

Psi U // Thursday 8 PM

Facebook Event

LA-based rapper Henry Canyons transcends your typical boundaries of hip-hop identity. The self-described Brooklinite-French-Jew took to music at a young age; from his training as a jazz saxophonist to his teenage years spent in Brooklyn ciphers, his melodic style and bilingual lyrical integrity reflect a diverse musical background. He released his first solo mixtape, Vignettes, in 2012.

Rhys Langston ’16 is a rapper/producer from Los Angeles, CA and a member of the WYSF collective. His instrumental work ranges from dark, electronic and bass-heavy compositions to crunchy golden-era drums with simple but layered sample work. Lyrically merging West Coast eccentricity and boom-bap-influenced percussive poetics, in some ways he is stylistically transient, a reflection of his residence on both east and west coasts, and also perhaps, of his commitment to fracturing racial preconceptions by means of his racially ambiguous person through which he transmits his breed of hip hop.

Alex Hensley ’16 aka MVNTRA is a music producer from St. Croix, The US Virgin Islands and co-founder of WYSF. Channeling influences that range from Sun Ra to Lonnie Linston-Smith to Madlib to Harold Budd, his work rides the coattails of modern trap and hip hop instrumentals while creating his own aesthetic through multi-layered sub-bass-filled compositions.
