Calefax Reed Quintent

Crowell Concert Hall // Friday 8 PM

Facebook Event

According to London’s “The Times,” these Amsterdam dudes of the Califax Reed Quintet almost made the reed quintet seem like the “best musical format” on the planet. We’re graced with their presence this weekend at the Crowell Concert Series, and it looks like they’re all playing woodwinds. It feels unique and their sound feels like something in Alice in Wonderland. Be prepared to make your own connections, too.

Gabriel Garzon-Montana
(+Don Froot & Rui Barbosa)

Alpha Delt // Friday 9 PM

Facebook Event

Fresh off of a European tour with Lenny Kravitz, NY native Gabriel Garzón-Montano brings his talent to Alpha Delt this Friday night. Blending soulful grooves with sweet electronic sounds, Garzón-Montano’s show is sure to be incredible.

Don Froot is one of Wesleyan’s funkiest student bands who might remind you of Georgia. Or your mom’s latin records.

Wesleyan’s newest Brazilian civil liberties-themed trio, Rui Barbosa, plays anything from happy, bass-slappy funk jams to jazzy covers of your favorite children’s TV show theme song.

Active Bird Community

Earth House // Friday 10 PM

Facebook Event

Rock quartet Active Bird Community of NYC is flying (ha) through Earth House this weekend.  Their shoegazing jams are ambient, enchanting, and deliciously fuzzy. “I’m not sure what’s brewing here--or if the band members are even old enough to drink--but the recipe is potent,” says Music Without Labels. They’ve got a weird mix of loud, jarring, hypnotic, groovy, yummy noise going on that is a beautiful treat for your ears. They just released an EP a few weeks ago. Go give that a listen, then see 'em IRL.

Pile (+Kal Marks)

Eclectic // Friday 10:30 PM

Facebook Event

Pile is a behemoth of the Northeast underground scene. They’re loved with an intensity that can border on cult worship (their squirm-rock buddies Krill recorded a “failed” concept album about them—Steve Hears Pile in Malden and Bursts into Tears). Expect eery, uplifting melodies amidst gloriously jagged and dissonant post-hardcore riffing. Their live shows are among the best there are. Your mind will melt. You may burst into tears.

Kal Marks is your favorite Boston accent-garbled socialist. They're also a post-hardcore trio with a bracingly original  sound washed in smoldering distortion.  Capitalism is doomed to end, and so is Kal Marks as we know them. Catch their magic as they roar through with one of their last shows in their current format. Get ready for steady  grunge rock burners with cathartic explosions of noise and howling vocals.

"Get Cozy at Art House"
All-caps LADD
(+Phatrabbit & Rachel Connor's Photo Show)

ArtMuHo // Saturday 9:30 PM

Facebook Event

Brothers and comrades in moody mid-tempo indie-rock, all-caps LADD stew up all the best bits of The Strokes and Interpol into a blissful ragout. LADD’s recent EP Mad In The Coatroom had the whole campus bobbing its collective head, so this show is sure to be a wild rumpus.

What ever happened to sincerity? 4 teenage heartthrobs in are here to assure you that it's alive and well and it's also got a name--it's Phatrabbit. This funlovin’ Westco quartet will bring you what they refer to as “post-pop-punk-trash-feelings music.”  Jangly guitars and sensitive melodies that will make you shed tears and pump your fists like the last 10 minutes of The Breakfast Club.

Jon Waltz
(+Indi, Cornelius+, JDV plus, & Austin James)

Eclectic // Saturday 10 PM

Facebook Event

Sad, suave, and mysterious, Jon Waltz is coming to Eclectic. Brace yourself for a dose of his  sleek, contemplative hip-hop.  It's gonna bang.

Cornelius+ and Indi will team up to set the mood for Waltz. Fresh flows and bouncin' beats are bound to ensue.

"All I want to do is  eat Thai food and bathe in the liquid pink pearls of that "Beautiful" remix by jdv plus."
"Me too."

Austin James, some guy from Colby, will be making sounds. Sounds dope.

"Sexy Winter Party"
MFDP (+The C4)

DKE // Saturday 11 PM

Facebook Event

You bring the slush, MFDP will bring the slosh.

The C4 are  "the self-proclaimed greatest two-week-old rock band of all time."
