Here aboard our nebulous spaceship, the U.S.S. Wesleyan-Enterprise, we trudge forward into the bleak winter months. Ascending into the galaxies of homework and fishbowls, we leave in the rearview things we used to know like "sunshine" and "breakfast". Let off some steam this weekend, ditch the freeze dried ice-cream and venture out into the land of the living. Ground yourself with some ill hip-hop, or vent that inner-turmoil at a rock show. Recharge, relax, and come down when your ready, planet earth needs our help.

Isaiah Rashad + S'natrA, Lance Skiiiwalker & Jahmir

Beckham Hall // Friday 9:30PM

Facebook Event

Isaiah Rashad brings his brand of introspective and experimental rap to Beckham Hall this Friday! Since the release of his debut EP Cilvia Demo in 2014, Isaiah Rashad has been one of the most original voices in hip hop. Rashad is signed to the label Top Dawg Entertainment, home to artists including Kendrick Lamar and ScHoolboy Q. Rashad’s style, encapsulated by his debut LP, The Sun’s Tirade, fuses confessional lyrics, melodic raps, and hazy beats from some of hip hop’s best producers.

Rising Harlem based hip hop artist S’natra lays his smooth melodic vocals over heavily jazz-influenced beats. Through collaboration with Ivan Jackson of Brasstracks, the Grammy nominated production duo behind Chance the Rapper’s “No Problem,” as well as with JNTHN STEIN, S’natra effortlessly crosses between styles and genres to produce a body of work that strikes the perfect balance between something borrowed and something new. He has performed with several national touring acts, including GRiZ, Talib Kweli, Gramatik, and Lido. S’natra’s influences outside of the hip hop genre and his brass accompaniment give him a unique sound and allow him to play alongside a variety of styles.

A last-minute surprise addition to the line-up, Chicago native Lance Skiiiwalker followed up appearances on previous projects by Schoolboy Q, Jay Rock, and Kendrick Lamar this fall with the release of his debut album, Introverted Intuition. The project features production by Stefan Ponce (Grammy nominated for his work on Childish Gambino's Before the Internet), THEMpeople (frequent collaborator with other members of the Chicago hip hop scene including Chance the Rapper, Vic Mensa, Noname, and Mick Jenkins), and TDE co-president Dave Free. Skiiiwalker's vocal stylings offer a unique counterpart to the primarily rap-centered TDE family. He has been supporting Rashad on his Lil Sunny Tour dates, and we are pleased to announce him as support on ours.

!

Fresh-person Jahmir Duran-Abreu '19 brings New York to every lyric he spins. From sippin’ Caribbean ice’s on 125th street to tense neighborhood encounters with the police, his bars present themselves as urgent calls to pay attention to the very pressing realities of being a POC in America. Duran-Abreu, ever so eloquently, poetically retells his story to us with the aid of a back-up band and a fresh stage presence.

BOSSY + SCUBA COP

Earth House // Saturday 9:00PM

Facebook Event

Not quite rock, not quite punk, and not at all quiet, BOSSY is Jackie Manginelli, Beth Townsend, Helly Manson, Ona Lepeska-True, and Mika Yaakoba-Zohar (all ‘19). With their frosted tips, goatees, and California casual ethos, these pop heroes got their first taste of the spotlight with their sleeper hit “I’m a Believer”, quickly followed by the more widely received “Smash Mouth”. They also recently released some tunes which you can take a listen to below! Catch them this Saturday at Earth House before they continue onto the Middlesex County Fair, and remember to get ur game on, go, play!

Comprising of Will Jacobson ‘20, Grace Stanfield ‘20, Nate Krieger ‘20 and Neel Madala ‘20. Self described as “Basic Novelty Punk,” this band will challenge the boundaries of modern day music by conforming to all tenets of modern music. To understand how this can be accomplished, come to Earth House on Saturday.

Also stay tuned for a special guest (??)
