EMG Presents: Twins of El Dorado

Twins of El Dorado is a trumpet-voice duo from Brooklyn, NY. Expanding the definition of “art song,” this experimental-improv group explores the interaction between text and music.
Lucie Vítková is a composer, improviser, and performer from the Czech Republic, whose compositions focus on sonification. After graduating in accordion performance at Brno Conservatory in 2010, she went on to teach tap and perform with various improv groups. She is also a founder of Temporary Ensemble. Recently, she has been focused on the musical legacy of Morse Code and the social-political aspects of music and art in every-day life.

Turbo Goth is an infectiously catchy electro-pop group from New York by way of the Phillipines. They fuse dark and noisy synth textures with propulsive beats and an ambience lifted straight from a dimly light 80’s club. Come to dance, stay to dance, never leave. Turbo Goth is rocket equipped and ready to blast off.
Dark Circles never forgot the best era of alternative music: When the true heirs of radio rock rose to prominence on a national scale with tight jeans, teased hair and studded belts. Electrifying covers of My Chemical Romance, Blink-182 and more will be gracing your evening at Alpha Delt in a genre-spanning cover set from Wesleyan’s resident emo-rockers. Their last show had the whole floor shaking, this one is sure to pop-off.
SAD is an emo post-rock trio made up of Delilah Seligman, Chris Sailor, and Becca Hanschell. They play classic emo originals and covers that are full of waves of noisy guitar, bass, and drums overlayed with brooding vocals. If you feel the feels of despair, anguish, and agony, describe your aesthetic as tear-stained face melancholy, or appreciate a good communal cry to some super rad tunes, SAD is all your little aching heart could wish for.
Sloopy Coos Canyon

Sloopy Coos Canyon is a warm blanket of guitars and soft coos. Consisting of Nicole Roman-Johnston ('16), Erin McGrath ('16) and Luke Macdonald ('66), their music will hold like a mother to a sick child. Also, it’s their last show before Erin leaves to go on to greater things! Be sure to stop by.
Chetif Uck return from a 12 year hiatus, rising from their dark burrows to grace us with their divine presence. Utilizing a mix of guttural screams and grime beats, they’ll be sure to reclaim their titles of “Kings of the Beat”.

Roll through the WestCo Cafe on Friday for a night of performance and dancing unlike anything you’ve ever experienced before. Featuring a cast of WestCo residents playing all your personal heroes (Diplo, Jane Fonda, and Merlin, to name a few), THE PARTY promises to be the party to end all parties.

Tracy Grammar has been heralded as "One of the finest pure musicians anywhere in folkdom." She's a gifted modern storyteller, best known for her highly praised "post-modern mythic American folk music" created in partnership with Dave Carter. Since his passing, Grammer has continued to perform their songs, as well as some new releases, in celebration of the duo’s ground-breaking and transformative contributions to the genre.
Making the most of his final semester following last spring’s release of his EP What A Strange And Vulgar Thing, acoustic singer-songwriter Daniel Pope (‘16) is here to folk with your heart; putting angst, sweet nothings, and well-worn guitar strings into a blender, drinking it, and crooning out soft jams that flirt with your sense of existentialism.

Young Paris is a musician, creative director, and cultural icon whose work spans hip hop, house music, fashion, and social commentary. Infusing club-bumping beats with congolese drums and afrobeat energies, Young Paris’ music examines multinationality and the Afro-diasporic experience. His #melaninmonday campaign and Melanin fashion line are potent celebrations of the beauty and diversity of all peoples of color. On stage Young Paris mixes dance and performance art into a high-octane party with powerful politicals just under the surface.
Kafeelz and DJ Nicolas Cage are Eclectic's resident dance floor pyromaniacs.

Rui Barbosa and Friends

Do you want to “break free” this weekend? Come hear Rui Barbosa and Friends Max Luton ('17), Torie Davids (‘18), Mimi Goldstein (‘17), Susannah Clark (‘18) and Abby Gruppuso (‘16) perform their fun, pop-synth-jam renditions of some Disney classics. It has everything you want in a show: Max as a mermaid, Abby’s tear-jerking flute solo in “the Circle of Life”, and magic carpet rides. It’ll be worth “go[ing] the distance” to 230 Wash. Rumor is that Rui Barbosa may have done too good of job arranging these kiddy classics. Beware. And feel free to bring your VHS tapes of Tarzan.
Hoatzin is a new band on campus and they’ll be starting the night off with some warm neo-soul jams.

Rhys Langston is a prolific poet, flowing towering tapestries of threads grammatical into your swooning, two-eared head receptacle. He's a Practitioner of Floetry, swimming dexterously through beats to inhabit alter-egos ranging fromCalculus Johnson--"Minister of Abstraction," Resident Harebrain--"Scribe of Mad Prophecies," and Muckraker Jones--"Operator of Rakes." Come meet Rhys and all of these deeply dope wordpeople inside of him.
TRIPP JONEZ stirs brooding atmospheres with close-to-the-ear delivery over gloomy trap beats. He's an AcidSquad founder/member, coming up north by way of the Lower East Side to take you through haunted rap tours of his mental mansion.
MVNTRA is a founding member of the WYSF collective, a member of Portal Boyz and an affiliate of PMG records. With booming subs, tight, rattling high hats and ethereal melodies, his public appearances are few and far between. Don't miss the young God.
EXistential is Adam Wells (‘19) recently released his debut project EXistential Crisis, a collaborative feat which showcases his raw and aggressive flow. Although new to the campus rap scene, EXistential is sure to bring the hype to fill the WestCo Cafe this Saturday night.
