Yadda Yadda (+Josh the Word & spliffjams)

Earth House // Thursday 8:30 PM

Facebook Event

Yadda Yadda hasn’t updated her Facebook page  since October 10, 2014 (she created it September 19, 2014), so she’s probably more socially advanced than you could ever dream of being. Her music, genre-glitching and bumpin',  examines what it means to be a black female artist. She’s making the trek all the way from New Haven to play her smooth sounds for us, so let’s hope things get, as her page teases, “a little out of hand.”

Wes alum rapper Josh the Word (‘11) wants you to “get familiar” because he’s “ready to wild out.” “Not your average rapper,” Josh is Woodstock-born and Brooklyn raised and in Usdan there’s a picture of him rapping, so you know he’s good. A bunch of Wes students past and present are featured on Sixtape (lol), his most recent release. He’ll be performing with some other alums, including one from SHOFCO’s #1 supporter, The Rooks. Mimi Goldstein ‘17, vocalist from SHOFCO’s #2 supporter, Chef, will also be on backup vocals, so turn out to support your fellow Cardinals. “ad-lib city, kid.”

Wishbone + Follies

Art House // Friday 10 PM

Facebook Event

Wishbone is a lo-fi indie rock band. Follies is a lo-fi indie rock band. Words like “lo-fi indie rock” aside, these bands make are warm, crumbly distortion-coated organisms that’ll pull you through their slowly winding, intimate songs. Spurts of pretty vocal harmony and guitar jangle forecasted.

Venus X (+poolnoodle_93 & mnsall)

Eclectic // Friday 10:30 PM

Facebook Event

Venus X, born Jazmin Venus Soto, is a self described “new kind of DNA for New York,” breaking up the stratified social scene with her unique DJ style and art/music/fashion/nightlife ventures. She is particularly known for her GHE20GOTH1K parties that refreshed NY underground nightlife, and brought together a diverse group of people all with one common love--Venus X’s genre-bending style. She does a lot of sampling and remixing on the spot in order to “break apart the process of continuity,” so her performance is sure to move you like crazy, like dancing like crazy.

Zonker Harris Day
Jaw Gems (+jdv plus, meatwood flac & more!)

WestCo Courtyard // Saturday 11:30 AM - 6:30 PM

Facebook Event

Zonker Harris Day is WestCo’s annual springtime music and “arts” festival. This day-long playdate has an illustrious history of good feelings, cool-looking clouds, spliffs, time-traveling cover bands, bare feet, fruit buffets, t-shirts, spontaneous weddings, magical fairies, fungi, smiles, and institutional conflict. It’s quintessential something. According to Pierro Scaruffi, "Zonker Harris Day is the most comprehensive showcase of  underground, up and coming, and "just for fun" Wesleyan acts that you'll see all year. 9/10 -- an indispensable contribution to modern popular music, ZHD is reaffirming the artistic integrity of, well, art in general." This year's headliners are Portland ME psychedelic soul jammers Jaw Gems.

Heems (+Dapwell, Rhys Langston, & jdv plus)

Eclectic // Saturday 10:00 PM

Facebook Event

You probably know him as #11 on Rolling Stone’s 2001 list of “Top 50 Tweeters in Music,” but Heems is also known for his role in Das Racist, successful solo career (he just released his debut album, Eat, Pray, Thug, on March 10), and founding the independent label Greenhead Music. His mention of WestCo’s Wine & Cheese on that Vampire Weekend song probably made you lol nostalgically, so come lol with him and listen to some “post 9/11 dystopian brown man rap.”

Rapper and former hype man for Das Racist, Ashok Kondabolu, or Dapwell will be opening for Heems with a presumably “hype” DJ set. He's got a website.

Rhys Langston practices floetry. Help him get his song “Cc” to 2k plays so he can release his new track.

jdv plus just released his thesis. Its v good. He’ll probably be pretty excited which always makes for a fun time.
