AURALWEST: CAMERA OBSCURA
Remember when I said that great music will not be brought to you for free this summer... Well I was wrong.Famous Scottish indie pop band will be playing at the Wiltern this Tuesday for approximately $20, this is not the show of the week, they will also be playing tomorrow (monday) at Amoeba for free. Camera Obscura is a Scottish indie-pop band from Glasgow. They are close friends of Belle and Sebastian and basically the San Antonio Spurs of indie-pop. They are consistent, tight fundamentally, and doing quite well for themselves right now. They play dreamy highly structured songs about love with the beautiful, yet commanding, voice of Tracyanne Campbell leading them. Their newest record Desire Lines received pleasant reviews from critics and appropriately meets expectations. This is their second album on the 4AD label that distributes other big indie hitters like Deerhunter, St. Vincent, and the National. They will be playing at Amoeba Music, which is probably the best record store ever. It's located on the corner of Sunset/Ivar and is basically the Powell's Books of music. Meaning is fucking huge. Come to Amoeba tomorrow at 6 to catch a free show by Camera Obscura and maybe pick up a record in the process. If you can't make it you can stream a webcast here: http://www.amoeba.com/live-shows/upcoming/detail-2625/index.html The show starts at 6, but if you want to get in you'd better show up at 5 or earlier.
