WEEKEND PREVIEW 4/25 - 4/27

How was your week? Exhausting? Probably. So then you need music things in your life! If that's the case, then us kids at Aural Wes have got you covered. In this post, we've chosen a few concert highlights of the weekend, including tonight's sweet grooves at Eclectic brought to you by Shabazz Palaces and THEESatisfaction. Hit the jump to see what else you don't dare miss out on this weekend.

Thursday - 4/25

Shabazz Palaces, THEESatisfaction, Malitia MaliMob @ Eclectic  9:00 pm

Founded and led by Palaceer Lazero, the former Butterfly of the fantastic early-90s jazz-rap group Digable Planets, the infinitely groovy Shabazz Palaces doubtlessly take some cues from the smooth work of Lazero's hugely influential alma mater. But this Seattle-based avant garde collective dares to experiment with more than just the beatnik bass of "Rebirth of Slick"; where groups like Digable and A Tribe Called Quest gathered influence from Black American jazz culture, Shabazz Palaces gather sounds from African and Islamic blackness, melding distinct rhythm with the smooth slick that they've so clearly mastered. But it's not nearly as pretentious and "world music" as that sounds, I swear! Opening will be the seriously groovy R&B swag of sister act THEESatisfaction and the hard-hitting Seattle rap duo Malitia MaliMob. Less info here.

Friday - 4/26

Mel Hsu's Senior Recital @ the Memorial Chapel  8:30 pm

She's a cello virtuoso and this is sure to be pretty astounding. More info here.

Saturday - 4/27

Sessa and the Trip, DJ Joel Stones, O Presidente @ Earth House  10 pm

Billed as "A Brazilian Psychedelic Experience", this show is sure to take your spirit to a fantastically sunny place, like a beach or a summer rooftop or something. Sessa and the Trip are the project of Sao Paulo Tropicalia musician Sergio Sayeg, a guitarist who's clearly got some Brazilian grooves pumping through his veins. Accompanied by a full band and a spiritual advisor, this is sure to be one springtime-y soul party. Opening will be DJ Joel Stones, former owner of NYC record-haven Tropicalia in Furs, and your boyz O Presidente. More info here.

SHOFCOchella featuring The Rooks @ Psi U  12 pm

Spend all day and all night at Psi U! Lotsa hip hop, also Grand Cousin, Molly Rocket, and more. And dunk tank popcorn cotton candy whey station and all of the other fun things. More info here.
