Weekend Preview 4/20 - 4/22
So much to do this weekend! So many options! You can check out some punk at MAC 650 on Thursday night, and then again Saturday night at Muho. There are lots of cool shows happening on Friday (4!) so you can get a little taste of everything. Make August Count might have broken the record for most shows in one weekend (3.) Also on Saturday is the annual Spring Fling Battle of the Bands. Who will claim the opening spot at Spring Fling this year? Preview featuring Hodera, Video Age, Jaguar Pyramids, Soccer Mommy, and Make August Count
WESLEYAN PUNK SHOW
MAC 650 // Thursday 7:00 PM
Facebook Event
Make August 1 is a self-described “post-pitchfork” band and their Twitter bio is “Punk 4 Porn Starz.” But their Bandcamp tags are “alternative,” “diy,” “emo,” “indie rock” and “New York.” Their music is an honest, raw blend of the collision of emo and indie rock and emo again. This is their EP release show, (one of three shows this weekend) so come and support! Or you can see them one of the other two times they play.
The Flaccid Ashbacks love to play music. They also love to record music. In fact, they released an album not too long ago and you can listen to it here. Neat!
Theboywonderhimself plays song inspired by your emo phase in middle school. Song you might be ashamed to like, but shouldn't.
Dink 182 is a Blink 182 cover band. It's like they're Blink 182, but they're not!
Video Age (+ MEG & Thomas + Charlie)
Art House // Friday 10:00 PM
Video Age is a new wave indie rock band from New Orleans. Their album "Living Alone" came out in 2016 and is full of amazing 80's techno vibes. Ray Micarelli, Ross Farbe, and their new band members joining them on their Spring tour are playing old and new music as the headliners.
Money Energy Guns (formerly known as MEG) is comprised of Chris Reed ('19), Meg West ('19), and Jake Rogers ('19). Monery Energy Guns revitalizes 80's hair bands with less hair and glamrock, but all the rock and roll lifestyle.
thomas + charlie is Thomas Donovan ('20) and Charlie Schine ('20). Thomas and Charlie took experimental music 1 and now they're in a band kind of.

Hodera & apes of State (+ Make August Count & the PTGS)
Middle House // Friday 8:00 PM
Hodera began as an outlet for Matthew Smith's poetry to be put to folk music. At its core, the songwriter sentiment remains, but the final product contains tinges of 2000's alternative, emo, and indie rock. Smith's voice is deep, conversational, and kind, but communicates internal pain through teeth-gritting yells that match the explosive energy of a breaking crescendo. Watch Hodera perform their crunchy alt-rock tunes, and sing along with heartbreaking choruses boosted by a powerful low-end presence.
Apes of the State write music that sounds like the soundtrack to a campfire - except it’s infused with all the angst of your teenage years. It’s angry, but it’s fun!
The PTGs are a sappy folk punk trio from Connecticut. Their debut EP “Pretty Okay!!” is pretty okay
Jaguar Pyramids (+ Existential)
Westco Cafe // Friday 9:00 PM
Jaguar Pyramids is a trio—from LES, Harlem, and Brooklyn respectively— who recently released their self-titled album, whose belly-full-of-fire verses and sometimes industrial, sometimes cloudy, but always dark beats successfully brings their individual qualities together to paint a multifaceted portrait of their city's hip-hop soundscape, and what it means to be a young rapper in New York." - Noisey Vice
EXistential aka Adam Wells '19 is performing his first Wesleyan set in a while. If it's anything like previous shows, he will bring a creative energy that will carry through to Jaguar Pyramids's set.
Soccer Mommy (+Brien Bradley & bailey)
Farm House // Friday 9:00 PM
Soccer Mommy is based out of nyc, a college project from guitarist/vocalist Sophie Allison, Soccer Mommy makes fun good guitar pop, sometimes sad but always keeping up breezy harmonies.
Brien Bradley “is amazing at playin' the banjo”. Like really really amazing.
You may know Bram as the drummer from the good lonely, but this is an entirely new solo project (featuring a few guests). They produce cool electronic, Ariel Pink-esque tunes.

Prince Daddy & The Hyena is “whipped cream power pop punk currently blazin’ in Upstate NY”. Signed to Broken World Media, their most recent release, “I Thought You Didn’t Even Like Leaving” is fun, loud, and catchy
