Spring fling is still an eternity away, so refuel before the year goes bust. Enjoy ur weekend stupor and don't forget to sign up for aural wes' upcoming battle of the cover bands. Until next time.
Jacob Milstein (+ Bailey Blu)
Music House // Thursday 7:00 PM
this event requires some description (straight from fb, written by the host):
when i was driving across country with my dear friend Mealin Bop over winter break we couch-surfed in nashville, TN and met jacob milstein! a wes alum! he's on a tour right now and is going to play us some lovely songs in muho.
Jacob Milstein plays acoustic music!!!!! It will be great!
bailey blu is Bram Wollowitz! We don’t really know to expect but here is a rad song they recorded that was featured on our New Wes Sounds II page.
Petunia (+ DINK 182 & Purple Windsounds)
Middle House // Friday 9:30 PM
Facebook Event
It jingles, it jangles, Petunia’s special brand of “pinball rock” bounces along with all the breeze of a Jersey boardwalk. Described by a friend as “Springsteen on roids,” Petunia’s brand of indie rock feels much more like Real Estate and Wilco jamming on a coffee date. Don’t mistake that for a dig, the effortless melodies and intricate rhythm section evokes summer sun and careless 60’s summers, a surefire combo for a good show.
Purple Windsounds brings experimental long-form pop into contact with theremin solos and shout-along choruses. They journey along psychedelic corridors with the sensibility of a shoegaze beach-boys cover band. S O L A R!
Have you ever heard of Blink-182? Blink-182 is a dedicated Dink-182 cover band! So come for all the hit singles, like “Damnit” and “Rock Show”. This can’t not be lit.
MAY DAY
Long Lane Farm // Saturday 12:00 PM
Facebook Event
The Purple Windsounds will be playing their second show of the weekend at Long Lane this Saturday afternoon. Should be a "nice relaxed farmy atmosphere"
Also Featuring Jack Anthony, Nate Ko, Phie Towle and a mysterious unnamed experimental ambient group.
JUNGLEPUSSY @ Buttchella
Butts Courtyard // Saturday 7:00 PM
Facebook Event
This year the Butterfields RAs are putting on Buttchella, a food, craft, and music festival. The fest is headlined by Junglepussy, an independent rapper based in New York City. She released her debut album Pregnant with Success in 2015, which she described as “an ode to my mother, to all mothers, to anyone who’s ever planted a seed, to anyone who’s ever created something, to anyone who’s ever waited patiently for something to come into fruition”. Much of her music is about the importance of confidence and self-love, embracing your flaws to the fullest. Her lyrics are empowering, and her character is unapologetic.
COVEN OF MIMA GOOD (+ Hex Grrls & umami goddess™)
Earth House // Saturday 10:00 PM
Your local witchbitch Raechel Jae Rosen '15 of "Blow" fame makes a stunning return to her alma mater with her political witchy grrl rocknroll group, Coven of Mima Good. After touring the NYC feminist DIY scene, the coven is ready to hex you up, cause it's a (wo)man's world, baby. Their songs tread between indulgent revenge fantasies against the patriarchy and moody meditations on desire. Mima loves her demons but sings like an angel, so come & dance under her spell.
Hex Grrls are a SmASh MouTH cover band that plays angry girl rock. Think punky funky bass, moody drums, and annoyed vocals. You can probably relate
&& just in case you thought Rick Hong Manayan couldn't possibly get more talented, they're here to prove you wrong as umami goddess™. dance forever to taurus sun, gemini moon, and virgo rising. better leave it all on the floor ;)
