Weekend Preview 11/13-11/15

Slim Charles (+Sleepkid & Schwab)

Psi U // Friday 8 PM

Facebook Event

Slim Charles are bringing their technical, emotional math-rock to Psi-U to make your ears wiggle with their super-smart guitar work and funky rhythms. These guys will get heavy, twinkly, jazzy, etc-y-y-y.

Sleepkid are a cool new wes punk band born from Nick Selden’s neckbeard and bunch of other cool folks. "First saw them play in a tiny fountain home, now they’re at Psi U. Oh how they’ve grown! The songs are warm, melty, screamy. Like a punk Grilled cheese. Gonna be amazing to see the crazy cathartic chorus “iiiiiiiiii don’t wannnna get wettttttt” in person once again. I’ve been waiting," gushes a disciple.

Schwab is breaking into the scene in a big way. No fish bowl here. Wesleyan's rock n' roll power couple has some of the best guitar chemistry around. They'll serve up brooding indie-rock with beats by the cutest drummer around.

Panty Punk

w/ Truthers (+Slow Parade & Babelar)

ArtMuHo // Friday 10 PM

Facebook Event

So let’s pretend you just murdered a beach rock band (DIIV?) and have to dispose of their bodies. You throw them into a trash bag with some rocks and their dreamy guitar riffs, and then you throw this bag into the ocean. Now, because you’re a novice murderer, their bodies soon float up to the surface. They’re half dead at this point and covered in seaweed, but still holding onto some humanity, so they channel this into a new band: Truthers!

Slow Parade will shred a Dead Kennedys cover set. It’ll help you hate the world and make you realize that Twinkies are the best friend you've ever had.

Babelar is Wesleyan’s late Faceplant  resurrected and reworked.  FIDLAR cover set incoming. We’re all still “really really horny and [we] wanna have sex,” so this should be great.

Awkwafina (+Cornelius & JDV Plus)

Alpha Delt // Friday 10:30

Facebook Event

Akwafina is a rapper from Queens with a brilliant sense of humor, demonstrated by songs with titles such as “Queef” and “My Vag.” Her songs include some sharp social commentary but are fun enough to vibe to if you’re cognitively impaired and just tryna have a good time.

Arabic, heroin, and “oxygen” are all within the soundscape of Cornelius+, Wesleyan rapper and enigmatic opener for Awkwafina.

JDV Plus is a sick producer who produces sick music.

SEED (+Rui Barbosa)

Earth House // Friday 10 PM

Facebook Event

SEED is a funky four-piece band from Eastern Connecticut that fuses jazz sounds with modern day psychedelic rock to create a genre they refer to as “Progressive Funk.” Influenced by artists such as Umphrey’s McGee, Lettuce, and Maceo Parker, SEED’s groovy, genre-bending sound will have you jamming and moving this Friday night at the Eart Yurt.

Rui Barbosa is a funky Wes jamband that features Adam Rochelle '17, Jonah Wolfson '17, and Johnnie Gilmore '18. Come check out their first show of the weekend!

D(u)KE Day

w/ Horse Jumper of Love (+all-caps LADD,
Rui Barbosa, Bryan Farb and the Raisin Band, No-Fish Bowl, & Locus)

Westco Cafe // Saturday 2 PM

Facebook Event

Klub Café returns for the first time--ever--from the hallowed halls of West College to bring the Wesleyan college campus the 8th day of the week. On the 8th day of the week Uncle Duke created himself and Michael Roth’s po-mo ice-bucket extravaganza to bring you Duke Day. It all falls into place when you think about it. Duke Day will provide you and all your friends with an alternative social experience that you won’t find at WeShop. According to the oft-quoted adage: “Duke Day is Westco's fall-time music and arts festival. Come for friends, sounds, sights, food, fun, and fantasy. Find yourself in the Café on Saturday.” Take it for a whirl!

Low Fat Getting High (+Dances & Thatcher)

Eclectic // Saturday 10 PM

Facebook Event

Low Fat Getting High is a "post-noise-grunge-core-shredding” band from Brooklyn, NY. They're catchy, upbeat, and quirky, a must see on this weekend’s agenda! Their bass player riiiiips, and they just dropped a rippin’ new EP. Listen in here and start practicing your mosh pit flail.

Dances make smooth, psychedelic indie rock with bursts of punk for you to get groovy with. Dances is a lithe little trio coming to you straight from Brooklyn. Check it this weekend.

Thatcher are Wesleying’s “post-post punkiest band.” What does that mean? It means that they play rock and roll songs with cool riffs and hip thematic elements. Their last show at Wesleyan was a raucous mosh-fest and word on the street has it that this show will be neat-o as well.
