Next weekend is spring break, Last weekend felt like spring fake, This weekend will be full of dope concerts. Why mince words? I’m stoked about Delicate Steve and the Rooks coming to grace our campus presence this weekend. U might need a warm coat (we’re back to Connecticut weather) but it’s worth braving the elements to peep some incredible musicians. Bring the quarter to a close with some tunes before midterms run away with ur sanity, we’ll see u out there! -Team Aural Wes

Emmett McCleary (+ dj BB & Sloane Peterson)

Russian House // Friday 10 P.M.

Facebook Event

Emmet McCleary is bringing his band all the way from Montreal to play some rock & roll for the people of Wesleyan! This is exciting!

Starting the night off is Sloane Peterson, who mixes 80s pop and 70s punk to cause the catchiest headache you could ever give yourself.

Ending the night is dj BB, if you wanna stick around and dance.

The Rooks

Alpha Delt // Friday 9 P.M.

Facebook Event

Alumni band, The Rooks, is back this weekend to play you an acoustic set of some of their tunes.  The Rooks combine sounds of soul, funk, and R&B, with undertones of pop to create well-crafted and catchy vibes. The band is incredibly talented and lead-vocalist, Garth Taylor, once made me cry with his cover version of Frank Ocean’s Bad Religion, so a stripped-drown set is sure to please.

Beck Zegans will set the mood with a short solo set before the Rooks take the stage.

Cyberqueer cryptorave

Music House // Friday 10:30 P.M.

Facebook Event

What is this event anyway? It's a multimedia performance platform showcasing queered usage of the internet to construct identity and explore alternative eroticisms. The event will feature submissions from tons of queer artists, DJs, and performers on campus. Organizers of the event would also love to incorporate more submissions of performance and art at the event, so reach out if you’d like your work to be featured!

Delicate Steve (+ Bonanza, MOM & Hex Grrls)

Music House // Saturday 9 P.M.

Facebook Event

Delicate Steve’s music has been defined by some “guitar-pop,” but some have written that he defies any genre. His songs rarely contain vocals, but he’s claimed his approach to playing guitar is similar to vocals - his guitar is his voice. He's an in-demand musician, having worked with Paul Simon, Yeasayer, Mac Demarco, David Byrne, and Dirty Projectors. Steve Marrion has a compelling, soulful attitude to his slide guitar playing - and yet he's not afraid to incorporate humor and silliness. His music is infectious and guaranteed to get you dancing.

Mom is comprised of Wesleyan’s own Sam Friedman ‘18, Ben Klausner ‘18, and Jonah Wolfson ‘17.  Aural Wes’s Adam Manson calls their music “whacky and funtastic.”

Bonanza creates groovy tunes by combining funky rhythms, poetry and sweet, sweet harmonies. They’re playing some new tunes, so come check them out before Steve goes on.

Hex Grrls is Wesleyan’s newest Smash Mouth cover band, Just a cover band. We have absolutely nothing to be angry about.
