South African beats and free cake

Free Cake for Every Creature

Earth House // Friday 10 PM

Free Cake for Every Creature is a charming Philadelphia-based indie-rock-pop group with a love for DIY rock shows and songs about books. Their songs will warm your heart with whispered vocals, fuzzy instrumentals, and hopeful but relatable and honest lyrics. They’re currently headlining a tour of the East, (opening up for eskimeaux for a few stops along the way,) and few days ago they released their new record, Talking Quietly of Anything With You.

Seferino

Eclectic // Friday 10 PM

Facebook Event

Seferino is a producer hailing from Capetown, South Africa who produces soft-and-catchy-pop music. His synths are airy and his voice is sweet.  You may have  heard him play with the John Wizards.  Now Seferino travels to Wesleyan to bring us a taste of his "down-tempo sophistication" this Friday night at Eclectic.

Novelty Daughter
+Suzi Analouge

Art/Music House // Saturday 10 PM

Facebook Event

“Pop/Jazz/Electronic/Whateverelse” queen Novelty Daughter AKA Faith Harding ‘14 is back on her home turf to entrance you with her swingy dream-like vocals, overlaying swelling synth and off-kilter beats. Ride with her on her journey to more success as she tears up the music world with her ethereal layered tunes and makes a stop at her alma mater along the way.

Suzi Analogue is a neo-soul songwriter and producer originally from Maryland but now based in NY and Philadelphia. Her music sounds like a groovy electronic mix of R&B and hip-hop. Plus she’s done amazing things - she started her own record label called Never Normal Records, taught production courses at universities around the world, appeared on BET and MTV to talk about females in the music industry, and served as a cultural diplomat to Uganda, working with the US Department of State on the Next Level Initiative (!).

Overcoats
+Ives, KFEELZ, & Old Soles

Earth House // Saturday 10 PM

Facebook Event

Overcoats is New York-based female folktronica alumnus duo Hana Elion and JJ Mitchell.  Their sound captivates, combining electronic backdrops with mesmerizing, harmonic intimacy. Their songs draw strength from vulnerability, a reflection of the band’s deeply woven connection to each other and the music they create.

Their smooth and spacious self-titled debut EP released in June 2015 attracted critics and fans alike and lead to a three-month tour. Their most notable performances included a Vice Magazine showcase in London, a headline show at Dublin’s renowned Whelan’s, and a set at Longitude Festival alongside the likes of James Blake, Hozier, and Ibeyi. The duo returned to New York in November to play a packed room at Mercury Lounge and recently played SXSW.

They’re now returning to Wesleyan to perform and lead a forum on women in electronic music linked below.

GENDERED BEATS (FORUM DISCUSSION)

Facebook Event

Ives is the new project of senior Anna Schwab who has previously performed in Wesleyan groups Schwab and Double Twins. After taking break from performance, Anna is back this weekend playing battle of the bands on Friday and opening for Overcoats on Saturday. Ives ventures into new, undiscovered territory--somewhere where live electronics and echoing vocals swim together in blissful harmony. Ives will captivate you, tucking you in a blanket of mesmerizing beats.

KFeelz is sophomore DJ Kafilah Muhammad.  She’s been tearing up the Wesleyan DJ scene, having opened for CRNKN and LOUDPVCK just last weekend. She will make you dance. Definitely not one to miss.

Old Soles is a duo made up of Eva Moskowitz  and Mira Guth. Come listen to them cover acoustic classics and harmonize over some chill guitar strumming.

Rico
+Sneaky Sugars

Alpha Delt // Saturday 10:30 PM

Facebook Event

Rico and Sneaky Sugars are hosting a Battle of the Bands: B Bracket this Saturday night at Alpha Delt. After not meeting the cut for Battle of the Bands, they decided to throw their own party.

Rico is a power trio who play garage rock with funk and blues influences, the kind of music they hope will someday convince "the Black Keys and the White Stripes settle their differences and have a beer together."

Sneaky Sugars are not so subtle about their energetic and uplifting guitar-driven sound. Known as Wesleyan's delectable indie-rock confection, the group plays a mix of energetic original songs and fun covers.
