Weekly Track Roundup 10/2/23: Roommate Recs
We asked you all to ask your roommate for a song recommendation. Here’s what they said:

Young Miko - “Riri”
"We listen to the same music so I know you've heard it, but it's not humiliating, and 'cause I know how much you love the dougie."
- Matthew Gilbert (Nolan Lewis’ roommate)
Black Arabs - “Black Arabs”
this track has become a personal favorite of mine over the past few weeks, just can't stay away from the upbeat disco grooves combined with classic 70s britpunk lyrics. take it sleazy america!
- Rain Fox-Halperin (Lily Lazar’s roommate)
Porter Robinson - “Unfold”
Unfold falls on Porter's sophomore album right after the acoustic ballad “Blossom”, which is a really tough act to follow. Whereas the earlier half of the album has explored melancholy themes of artistry and perfectionism with a happier approach to the melancholy, Unfold opens feeling significantly more crushed and defeated. And yet, there's an immense sense of hope to be found in the track. It's one of the only songs on the album with a feature, a vocal one at that. Porter's pitched-up lyrics and the emotional climb of this song really would NOT work if it wasn't a perfect duet. And the hit of that final chorus??? It's tragically beautiful, heavy, and depressing. The blend of acoustic, electronic, and just damn good songwriting on Unfold leaves it as a massive standout on every repeat listen, and given that this was the only album downloaded on my phone for a year of hybrid-in-person school, there was a LOT of re-listens. I hope you enjoy.
- Orlando Osgood (Emmett Favreau’s roommate)
Drake - “Slime You Out (feat. SZA)”
He said that this is what he plays at tennis practice.
- in regards to Kenji Kono (Oliver Buten’s roommate)
George Harrison - “Living In The Material World”
I asked Emma Bella for a song rec and they talked about this one for about two minutes straight while I frantically tried to write everything down in my notes. Here's the unedited transcript for your enjoyment
lifelong fan of George
been listening to lesser known albums by George lately
vibes so hard
giving early Fleetwood Mac w/ the beat
similar vibe to when McCartney does rock
“Are you eating cheese?” - terry
it’s so fun, great vibes

madonna is living in a material world, george is living in The material world
- Emma Bella Bass-Lawrence (Nathan Hausspiegel’s roommate)
Guns N’ Roses - “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door”
I LOVE Guns N’ Roses. They are my favorite band ever. I especially love Knockin' On Heavens Door. People make fun of Axl Rose for his subpar songwriting abilities but his writing on this track touched me like nothing before. It really proves that people hate just to hate. Peace and love.
- Oliver Buten (Graham Glassner’s roommate)
