Weekly Track Roundup 10/16/23: Squirrel Music
This week, the universe’s most important question needed answering: what do the Wesleyan squirrels listen to? Here’s what our staff said.
Death Grips - “This Is Violence Now (Don’t Get Me Wrong)”
This sounds like a song that a squirrel would have in its head while it has power fantasies on its daily activities (crawling around, gathering acorns, socializing with other squirrels, etc.) I think in particular the high-pitched chopped vocals sound squirrel-esque to me.
— Lily Lazar
100 gecs - “Doritos & Fritos”

Laufey & Philharmonia Orchestra - “Let You Break My Heart Again”
Hey, squirrels have feelings too. If you think that the Wesleyan squirrels don't have this awful casual dating culture we have here, you'd be mistaken. It's hard being a loversquirrel.
— Alexandra Taylor
Squirrel Census Records - “Tiny Little Squirrel”
an ole buddy of mine was involved with the squirrel census. we called it his squinternship. i still don't really know what his responsibilities were, but this song seems to have been one of them.
— George Manes
Squid - “Boy Racers”
Squirrel racers in our dreams at night.
I feel like Squid appeals to squirrels. Like they love this band
- Elijah Davis
Jungle - “Us Against The World”
Squirrels are the only ones who can understand what Jungle is saying on the first listen so of course they love feeling included!
- Nolan Lewis
mclusky - “Lightsabre Cocksucking Blues”
flying is fearful of him
— Max Levin
Alice in Chains - “Nutshell”
Squirrels like nuts.
— Oliver Buten
Björk - “Hidden Place”
The hidden place where Björk hides her love in question is also where she hides her acorns for the winter!
— Luné Maldonado
The Kinks - “A Well Respected Man”
In my mind this is a very autumn song. I can just imagine a squirrel going about his day, with a squirrel suit and a squirrel patterned tie, collecting nuts off of trees from 9-5. A very well respected squirrel. Hooray!
— Graham Glassner
The Peter Brötzmann Octet - “Machine Gun”
What do squirrels love?
Free Jazz and Violence.
Need I say more?
— Bennett Gottesman
