"Toxic" - Britney spears
While not directly relating to gossip, Toxic was the song every eighth grader blasted from inside their locked rooms as they discussed who had been kissing who behind the dumpsters. It's the anthem for young teens with navel piercings; just hearing it is enough to warrant a check over the shoulder to search for laughing and pointing 14 year olds.

If you’ve had any experience with seventeen-year-old girls, you know that they’re pretty much the queens of gossip. Anthems for a Seventeen Year Old Girl by Broken Social Scene not only highlights that, but also seeks out the beauty in that superficiality. The simple guitar, warped vocals and violin create an eerily beautiful song that brings back all the nostalgia of the teenage years.

"girlfriend"-Avril Lavigne
My choice of "Girlfriend" is at least partly attributed to the fact that two of my friends are music directing a Second Stage show this semester that features exclusively songs by Miss Avril--I've been hearing a lottt of Avril lately. "Girlfriend" takes me back to my middle school days where everyone rocking too much eyeliner had this music video on their Bebo page, and spent most of their time scheming and saying awful things about each other. Because she really "is like so whatever, and you can do so much better."
