A couple of nights ago, I found out about a radio function on VLC while I was with some friends. You might've heard of VLC — it's a program that allows you play videos in formats that QuickTime (and probably the Windows Media Player?) don't recognize, to play .flac files, and whatever else it can do. It also has the Icecast Radio Directory which has hundreds of radio stations to choose from.

On that night, I rediscovered Limp Bizkit's "Rollin," which I highly suggest you give another listen, or at least watch the video and enjoy Fred Durst's dance moves and "fuck you" swagger. I had a moment with some slow, emotional Asian song sung by a female, but I'm not sure what the song is… We bounced around from stations with things like German club music to Country Pop hits (actually pretty funny to sit around and talk to).

As soon as I got home, I downloaded VLC and have been using it to listen to music more than iTunes ever since. I've been especially infatuated with Bachata and Dub, listening to bachatadominicana and dubsideradio. Sometimes I put on RadioBritney when I need my daily dose of Miss Spears. But this radio directory doesn't just give you music, you get talk shows and sermons too! Yesterday I found a stream of a sermon from a Scottish minister in which he said, "We refuse to run into the arms of God."

With VLC radio, you can get just about anything you want. And the quality of the stream is usually really good and continuous. Never be bored again. Your options are nearly limitless.

Some notable songs I found:

Biome - Mystery

I love this especially once it hits the 1:00 mark.

Anthony Santos - Me Enamore

My favorite part of Bachata songs would have to be where the vocals mostly cease and you're left with that classic Bachata percussion and an intricate guitar line. To hear it in this song, go to 3:30... goes for 50 seconds or so. Especially at 4:02 though, mmm hmm.

Breakage - Hard (Feat. Newham Generals & David Rodigan)

GAL ARE LOCKED IN LIKE DEM MEN ARE HARD / MAN ARE LOCKED IN LIKE DEM MEN ARE HARD / EVERYBODY'S LOCKED IN LIKE DEM MEN ARE HARD

La Bouche - Sweet Dreams

I rediscovered this song on VLC. I used to love it when I was younger. Back then, I'd buy electronic/club music compilations and sometimes my dad and I would blast a station with music like this (usually with mixes going much harder) when we'd leave our family friend's house at 2am, swerving on the highway well above the speed limit.

Mala - Level Nine

He's one half of UK dub duo Digital Mystikz, a group I'm pretty into. Be patient. When that beat drops almost a minute into it, I'm mostly positive that I've left our planet.
