WEEKEND PREVIEW 2/28-3/02

Thursday Flatbush Zombies @ Psi U 9:15

I lived in Flatbush last summer. I wish I could say I saw these guys around, but I would be lying. After releasing a series of fantastic music videos in 2012, Flatbush Zombies suddenly found themselves associated with other figures of the New York hip-hop renaissance like A$AP Rocky, Action Bronson, and Joey Bada$$, but these guys are on acid. Their performance in Psi U should be a rap fiasco of sorts, especially with Kool A.D. associate ketchPhrase opening.

The Japanese, Grand Cousin, and Johnny Love and the Heartmen @ WestCo Cafe 9:30

The Japanese have been on a hiatus and are reuniting tonight. May we all joyfully participate as their audience while they perform their indie rock catalog. Grand Cousin will be playing to soothe you with their rockin’ jams and Henry Hall’s falsetto. And as for Johnny Love and the Heartmen... I mean, just watch the linked video and interpret that for yourself. All three bands possess an exciting (or at the very least, interesting) performance style — no boredom here!

Also happening:

Big Tusk, Marathon, and Petunia @ Farm House 9:30

Friday

Jacco Gardner, Featherwood Bee, and O Presidente! @ WestCo Cafe 9:30

Aural Wes Presents Dutch psych-pop wonderkind Jacco Gardner in his U.S. DEBUT PERFORMANCE. Gardner's blend of psychedelic, baroque, and chamber pop music paints a beautiful and rich story on his recently released album, exploring the realization that the world may not be as magical and wonderous as once believed. But with its lush organs, biting harpsichords, and rich psychedelic soundscapes, Cabinet of Curiosities is certainly dreamy and magical as one could possibly hope for. NPR likens Gardner's music to that of Brian Wilson, Van Dyke Parks, and the Zombies, which speaks to his mastery of songwriting, production, and performance. Don't miss this unique chance to experience Jacco Gardner's music as it leaps from the studio and into the WestCo Cafe on Friday, March 1st. And check out Jacco's Brian Jones shaggy bowl-cut. It's a doozy.
