AURAL WES PRESENTS: JACCO GARDNER, FEATHERWOOD BEE, AND O PRESIDENTE
Do y'all recall last semester's mosh-inducing Mac Demarco show? Or perhaps the gleeful vibes of Fletcher C. Johnson? Well, this semester's Aural Wes Presents shows are only going to get better, and to kick 'em off, Dutch wonderkind Jacco Gardner is playing his debut U.S. show tomorrow in the WestCo Cafe. Here at Wesleyan. First ever North American appearance. Yeah.
On February 19th of 2012, Jacco Gardner released his first single and began playing solo. Within the past year, the pop virtuoso has released a plethora of psychedelic music videos, toured Europe extensively, and released his debut LP, Cabinet of Curiosities, on Trouble in Mind records. Tomorrow, Gardner embarks on his first U.S. tour, which he has chosen to launch from our very own dingy little WestCo Cafe.
Gardner's blend of psychedelic, baroque, and chamber pop music paints a beautiful and rich story on his recently released album, exploring the realization that the world may not be as magical and wonderous as once believed. But with its lush organs, biting harpsichords, and rich psychedelic soundscapes, Cabinet of Curiosities is certainly dreamy and magical as one could possibly hope for. NPR likens Gardner's music to that of Brian Wilson, Van Dyke Parks, and the Zombies, which speaks to his mastery of songwriting, production, and performance. Don't miss this unique chance to experience Jacco Gardner's music as it leaps from the studio and into the WestCo Cafe on Friday, March 1st. And check out Jacco's Brian Jones shaggy bowl-cut. It's a doozy.
Opening will be (drunk ass) Featherwood Bee and O Presidente. Featherwood Bee's Replacements-esque booze rock will be as rippin' as eve before. Wes-via-Oakland band O Presidente just released a doo wop-y record aided by the power pop genius of Matthew Melton, so don't miss this chance to buy their new CD!
