WEEKEND PREVIEW 4/11 - 4/13

WEEKEND PREVIEW 4/11 - 4/13

wp3.png

Do you need live music this weekend? Probably. Definitely. Then look no further than this here post. Highlights include some weirdo outsider electronic music tonight from Ryat and Banana Head, Friday night's Boldy James show brought to you by WESU fm, and some hopefully-sunny daytime festivals on Saturday. Hit the jump to scope, fellas!

Thursday - 4/11

Ryat, Bananahead, Russian Tsarlag, and Homie Airport @ Buddhist House  9 pm

I would describe Ryat as operatic, glitchy electronic music. Before listening to Ryat, I did not realize this was a an existing idea. Hailing from the Brainfeeder collective, Ryat's gritty yet cinematic arrangements are unlike even the most avant-garde creations of Wesleyan music students, so don't miss this unique and often gorgeous aural experience. Banana Head is the creation of Wes alum Zully Adler. Adler releases his subtle but undeniably poppy tunes via his own home-brewed tape label Goaty Tapes. Come on down to BuHo tonight in support of these fantastic outsider musicians! Playing too will be Russian Tsarlag and Homie Airport. More info found here.

Friday - 4/12

Boldy James, Gifted Higgz, Kill-F @ the WestCo Courtyard  9:30 pm

Come see the last show in the WESU concert series, this time featuring laid back Detroit MC Boldy James. With beats produced by none other than the Cool Kids' Chuck Inglish, Boldy's latest EP Grand Quarters is a minimalistgritty take on laid back stoner rap. Opening the show will be Middletown rapper Gifted Higgz and Kill-F. More info found here.

Limb's Bin, Let's Party Hats Hats Hats, and Bakshi @ Music House  10 pm

These dudes get down. You will too.

Saturday - 4/13

Humanity Festival featuring Amanda Palmer @ Foss Hill  12 pm

Raechel Rosen '16 has organized what looks to be a pretty spectacular daytime event for Saturday. Taking place at the bottom of Foss Hill, the fest will feature various Wesleyan student bands, reggae musician Don Minnott, and none other than Wes alum and Dresden Doll Amanda Palmer. According to Rosen, it will be a day-long "celebration in solidarity against bigotry, racism, and social divisions within a community," so come on down and express yourself and stuff! More info here.

Brochella featuring Molly Rocket and the Crooks @ the Butthole  1 pm

Sponsored by AEPi, Brochella will, apparently, be a ten-hour-long, fifteen act experience featuring too many bands to name without my developing carpal tunnel. Disenchanted with corporate, two-weekend Coachella? Then this is the event for you. More info here.
