AURAL WES WEEKLY TRACK ROUNDUP #7

Tracks on tracks on tracks! Every week, each member of the AW team chooses and reviews a song they've been playing on repeat. Contributions span different genres and eras, from early R&B classics to the latest lo-fi rock, from spaced-out-and-based-out beats to the most cutting-edge underground club. Read this week's latest installment here.

REVIEW: WHITE SUNS AT ART HOUSE

A riveting noise rock outfit from New York by the name “White Suns” delivered a cochlea-crushing performance at Art House on Friday night. On last year’s Sinews LP, White Suns meshed hardcore punk vocals with an all-out assault of distorted guitar, blast beats, and screeching feedback loops.

k∆leidoscope "Aurora"

A fresh track from cloudy beat maker k∆leidoscope (Kennan Burgess ’16) entitled “Aurora” was released today.  A song filled with floating vocals and an ethereal sensation all over it, “Aurora” works hard to make you not get out of bed ever.

AURALWEST: THE EAGLE ROCK GOSPEL SINGERS

Last night I got back to my house at 3AM. The party was fun, but was really just a pregame to watch the end of my TiVo’d copy of Ray, the 2004 film starring Jamie Foxx as Ray Charles. One of the best things about Ray is the catchy Jamie Foxx covers of Ray Charles songs. For those of you who haven’t seen the film, Ray Charles is portrayed as combining gospel melodies with blues lyrics and aesthetics. So I’m on a little bit of a gospel kick hence this week’s show is LA’s premier hip gospel group, The Eagle Rock Gospel Singers.

DONCHRISTIAN "MY CREW"

I watched his video with a smile on my face, and can't help but do the same every time I watch it. It's Don. DonChristian graduated from Wes in 2012 and things haven't been the same. He is one of the most sincere and kind people I know, and I know a lot of people would agree with me. He's instantly lovable. It's kind of weird… So seeing him on a pink floatie in the pool, playing tennis, or even standing around in the video for his first single, "My Crew," is more than enjoyable. I just wanted to squish him.

NEUROTIC DISPATCH FROM MAINE

Since I’ve been up in Maine for most of this summer without an internet connection I’m even more out of touch than usual with how what is hip is inching along. Therefore, I will not be writing about the new NutCruntsch album or the excellent B-Side off of Wolf Panties limited edition 45, or the recently leaked Friendsome orgy tapes.
