Frankie Cosmos, shot by digboston.

This may be your last chance to  forget (or pretend to forget) about the crushing reality of finals week. With an ultra-stacked Friday night and beautiful off-campus fav on Saturday, it shouldn't be too hard.

Five Band Mega Jam

Music House // Friday 9PM

Facebook Event

Doors open at 9PM and music will start at 10PM with Theboywonderhimself, a new campus band making its debut.

SAD is an emo post-rock trio made up of Delilah Seligman, Chris Sailor, and Becca Hanschell.  They play classic emo originals and covers that are full of waves of noisy guitar, bass, and drums overlayed with brooding vocals.  If you feel the feels of despair, anguish, and agony, describe your aesthetic as tear-stained face melancholy, or appreciate a good communal cry to some super rad tunes, SAD is all your little aching heart could wish for.

Space Camp are coming to Wesleyan for their inaugural campus show, bringing with them their queercore jazz/punk sound and a take-no-shit attitude. Come see them at Music House for the (soon to be) legendary FIVE BAND MEGA JAM and a chance to see them perform one of their renowned science experiments, just make sure to bring your goggles!

Purple Windsounds brings the bite of the avant-garde to their fluorescent alt-post-not-rock sound. Using Theremins, distorted acoustic guitars, and 7 minute sonic journey’s, Purple Windsound’s eclectic shows end up at places that they didn’t start. Featuring a cast of musicians from all over campus, they generate a whirlwind every time they play.

Yer Trash is a queercore outlet with intention to disrupt. Reaching towards punk, noise, rap, and whatever else is in the dumpster, they consistently bring radical sounds/ideas to their hurricane force performances. Rumor has it they may be releasing an album before the end of the semester...?

Nice Driveway + Flaccid Ashbacks

Art House // Friday 10PM

Facebook Event

Nice Driveway has been hitting the Wesleyan circuit for longer than anyone in the school can remember. For years they’ve shouted, played and stomped in the living rooms of houses and venues around campus, so be sure to come support their Balkan beats before they leave campus for the break (or forever???).

Flaccid Ashbacks is a new frosh band that is taking to the Wes music scene like ducks to water. If you missed them last weekend, shame on you. If you miss them again this weekend...shame on you!!! They are tight, catchy, and so, so fun.

Kemba

X House // Friday 10PM

Facebook Event

Kemba, formerly known as YC the Cynic, has been hailed as one of the “top underground hip-hop artists in New York.” Skilfully blending 90s vibes with current social criticisms, Kemba’s songs discuss issues ranging from institutional racism to police brutality, all under the backdrop of classic trap beats.

"Your grandmama's favorite rapper,"  Jal (Sahil Singhvi '18) will be opening the show.

Frankie Cosmos + Girltype Behaviors + BOSSY

Music House // Saturday 10PM

Facebook Event

Frankie Cosmos is the project of Greta Kline, a 22-year-old from NYC. Former Porches bassist, Kline is a singer-songwriter whose songs share the same blood as Beat Happening tracks and Frank O'Hara poems. Once (still!) a regular in the New York college music scene, Kline has surpassed her origins; she is praised by Pitchfork and NPR, and is without a doubt one of the defining artists of our lo-fi indie-pop obsessed generation.

From the ashes of The Patrick Swayze Karaoke Hour (the band, not the event) rises Girltype Behavior, a new group featuring Matthew Klug, Sallie Fullerton, Shea Fitz and Gemma Shay. Self described as “elevator music for kids who are too young to feel nostalgic for riot grrrl but do anyway”, it’s bound to be wild.

Not quite pop, not quite punk, BOSSY is Jackie Manginelli (‘19, lead vocals, triangle), Beth Townsend (‘19, guitar, vocals), Helly Manson (‘19, drums), Ona Lepeska-True (‘19, bass, vocals), and Mika (‘19, keyboard, vocals). Their band-inspo playlist includes “American Boy” by Estelle, “It Wasn’t Me” by Shaggy, and “Dancing on My Own” by Robyn. Scrappy and full of regret.
