WEEKEND PREVIEW 2/21-2/23
Do you want to know what shows are happening this weekend? No need to look further. We got you. Hit the jump to learn about all the music happening on campus (and one show in BK) this weekend involving your musical classmates. Highlights include Delicate Steve, The Stepkids, and Jonathan Toubin’s Soul Clap and Dance-Off.
Thursday
Delicate Steve and Robert’s Don @ Eclectic 10PM
Delicate Steve uses their guitars as melodic weapons. They will first mesmerize you, then they will serenade you with their songs of epic melodic proportions like “Wally Wonder” from their album Positive Force released last year on David Byrne’s world music label Luaka Bop. If you like infectious pop played on guitars and are tired of hearing people sing when you’re jus’ tryna hear sum chords, go to eclectic tonight. Free. Friday
The Stepkids, Sidewalk Dave, and Featherwood Bee @ Memorial Chapel 7:30PM
Quick, steady, and outrageously adventurous exercises in soulful rock are what we were looking for anyway. If you’re ready to partake (and I knew you were) in the shimmering psych-rock glamor of the Stepkids, you’ve got your chance. Get lost in it, get loose in it, get whatever with it. Chapel’s going to be murky with sound as we drift through Friday night- Sidewalk Dave and our freinds from school Featherwood Bee are opening. Free.
Also worthy of your time:
The New School, Siren, and Skybars @ BuHo 10Pm
If you’re in BK, Dubbel Dutch, Tigga Calore, and Wesleyan’s own Kilbourne @ 285 Kent
Saturday
Jonathan Toubin’s Soul Clap and Dance-Off @ Eclectic 10PM
Get down all night long to the extra-exceptional, explosive, and exquisite 1960s soul 45s of globe-trotting New York DJ Mr Jonathan Toubin! This is going to be like no other dance party you’ve ever been to -- Toubin spins only ol’ soul and rnb 45s from the ‘60s. You like to get down to that cracklin’ sound of Otis, Motown, and the like? Then enter the midnight dance-off and stand to win a CASH MONEY PRIZE! As Vice magazine puts it, "Jonathan Toubin is the only person we can call a "professional DJ" without involuntarily making a jack-off motion with our hand... His parties are like what Ancient Stonehenge was like if it was, as archaeologists theorize, filled with people dressed many times better than you completely losing their shit." So you best not miss this one. Free/ cash prize!
Also happening: Molly Rocket and the Crooks and Robert's Don @ 200 Church 9PM Assortment of Crayons and Ishmael @ BuHo 10:30PM
